Help me with Girl Scout Gold Award ideas?

Im a 16 year old Girl Scout and my troop and I have all the pre-reqs done for the project but we still have no idea what we want to do for the actual project. The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can recieve, it gives us an advantage over others when applying for scholarships and colleges in general. It needs to have some depth, not just clean up a park. They want things big like plant a whole garden and revive a park. But my troop and I want a project that we'd have fun doing and actully have an interest in. So, long explanation, but any ideas? If you have questions you want to ask that might help you then please ask. I greatly appreciate any help.

  1. Talk with your community leaders were you live and see if they have any projects.  Along with parks, there are cemetarys, areas around the court house, monuments.  How about the elderly in your area.  Is there any thing they need?  Do you have mobile libraries? A reading area?  A project to beautify an elderly persons home?  Contact your senior center or your area agency on aging for information there.  How about the day care agencies?  Do they need help setting up a play area?

Do the local hospitals have any projects?  Call your community leaders and non-profits.  They may have something on the table, but just need the help doing it.

    Good luck

  2. Very good suggestions given by your first reader/answerer.

I would like to add a few more ideas of S'pore style, what is yours?

In S'pore our current hot topics are:a) Care for Elderly people,  b)Promote Health Care Knowhow,  c) Volunteer in Community Services or Charity Organisatons, d)  Redevelop or Upgrade School compound by students), e) Beautification of Public Gardens & Parks, f) Cleaning care for beaches & rivers, g) promote sports in organising mini sports activities, h) Help out in Children Homes, Old folk homes & Handicap Centres.

Simple:   Just form an interest group 5-10 students and do a brain-storming session to decide what you want to do to win the Girl Scout Gold Award.  The idea/s will pop-out and you need to work on one of them in details to succeed.  After decided, then look for ways to do it better with a Question in YA for more.

  3. it's so hard to come up with ideas!  i've been trying to think of something to do for months, and last night i was inspired.  i was at the coldplay concert in boston and when i got home i realized i wanted to do something related to music.  i though i might hold a drive for musical instrument to donate to some inner-city schools or something along those lines.  i'm meeting with my leader tomorrow to see what she thinks.  but for you, i think you need to be inspired.  it really needs to just come to you...don't think about it!
