Question:

Help me with my HD Plasma TV resolution?

I have a LG 42PC5D that is suppose to be 1024x768p resolution however when I try to run things (such as my ps3) on either 480p or 720p or higher the screen just goes black with no signal. The only resolution allowed is standard NTSC.

What could be wrong? Can someone help me "enable" the HD part of this tv?

  1. well if you are trying to use 480p with the HDMI your are creating a conflict, 480p its not hd, try with 1080p and use the HDMI cable, make sure your plasma is setup for 1080p, and your ps3 as well, why do you want to use the 720p, i don't understand 1080p is way up better...good luck.

  2. First, you need to connect your PS3 via HDMI or component cables if it has those connections. If you're connected via S-video or the normal Yellow video cable you won't get an HD signal.

By the way, you're resolution doesn't seem to be able to run a 720p signal. Did you get a HD ready plasma TV?

    1080p   1,920x1,080   HD-DVD players; PlayStation 3

    1080i 1,920x1,080    Xbox 360

    720p 1,280x720   ABC, Fox, ESPNHD

    480p 852x480 Fox wide-screen; progressive-scan DVD players

Regular TV Up to 480 lines Normal broadcast

  3. The difference between 1080i and 1080p is in the way the signal is sent from a source component or displayed on an HDTV screen.

In 1080i each frame of video is sent or displayed in alternative fields. The fields in 1080i are composed of 540 rows of pixels or lines of pixels running from the top to the bottom of the screen, with the odd fields displayed first and the even fields displayed second. Together, both fields create a full frame, made up of all 1,080 pixel rows or lines, every 30th of a second.

In 1080p, each frame of video is sent or displayed progressively. This means that both the odd and even fields (all 1,080 pixel rows or pixel lines) that make up the full frame are displayed together. This results in a smoother looking image, with less motion artifacts and jagged edges.
