Help me with my Transmission?

My transmission in my Camero z28 its from 1984 has gone out, There is no 4th gear in it anymore. My gf's neighbor has one that he rebuilt but it will only go to 70? is that a bad thing, how can I check to see if its good? Should I get a contract on it to guantree to it or what>

take it to a trans shop thy will tell you.. no coast to you.

ugh. no. i think that was the 200 metric hydromatic in that year. get a rebuilt one from a shop with a good reputation or have yours rebuilt. if you are going to invest that type of time and money you want the peace of mind of knowing that you are getting something with a warranty.
