  2. You did not provide enough information.

"HandyCam" is a brand name Sony uses for all their consumer camcorders.

MiniDV tape and Digital8 tapeuse their DV port and Firewire (IEEE1394a, i.Link) cable to connect to the Firewire 400 port on your computer. Install a Firewire port on your computer if it does not have one. Video is imported real-time from the tape. The firewire cable is typically not included in the box. They are inexpensive. USB will not work and is typically used only to trnasfer stills from the memory card and maybe for web-streaming - but not for video transfer from the tape.

Flash memory and hard drive based camcorders use USB to copy files to the computer. The USB cable was included in the box, but they are pretty common and cheap to buy.

DVD based camcorders: Take the optical disc out of the camcorder - and if your computer's DVD drive is a drawer loader, use a DVD ripper like HandBrake

to save the video in a format your editor likes. NEVER put a miniDVD disc in a slot loading optical drive.

If your computer has a slot-loading DVD drive or you are using analog media (like Beta, VHS, VHS-c, Hi8 or something else), ALL camcorders came with an AV cable in the box - this cable allows you to connect directly to a TV for playback. Use this cable - and connect the camcorder to an Analog/digital bridge. If your computer has only USB:
