Help me with preparing an application and resume?

I'm eighteen and I don't know much about either things. I have friends to reference and my High School Deploma, anyways I just need pointers to increase my chances of getting a job.

  1. A hint: always use spell check. It is spelled "diploma".

    As a former interviewer, nothing irritated me more than a bunch of misspellings on a resume. Without speaking a word I would already have formed an opinion of the person just by looking at their resume. By not checking your spelling you are telling the interviewer that you really don't take the interview seriously, so why should they? Also, your peers are not your best references, unless you've worked for them. You would do better to have former teachers, counselors, pastors, even neighbors whom you might have done work for around their homes. Those are the types of references that most employers consider to carry weight.
