Question:

Help me with some predictions for the upcoming NFL Season?

Hi everybody!

I joined a football pool last year not even knowing how the game was played & I learned A LOT throughout the Season. I'm 100% addicted. I paid $150 to enter & then you make 5 picks per week over the 17 week Season so my $150 goes a long way for lots of fun. The top prize was almost $10,000. However I placed 33rd out of 75 people so I didn't get any prizes.

THIS YEAR I want it to be different & STARTING the Season strong seems to be the only hope. I spent last year trying to play catch up on bad picks I made early on.

So can you help me? Who do you think the dark horse will be? How do you think the NY Jets will do with Favre? Anything you can tell me is good. Maybe you could give me your top 5 teams. Not just teams you like but teams you think are really going to do well this year based on what you've seen so far in Pre-Season.

THANKS PEEPS!! GO STEELERS!!

  2. Hello anabell.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I will say that most predictions people make right now are going to be off. Even mine. It's just very difficult to make good judgements before the regular season. Not many people will admit that. If you really want a shot at the 10K, here is my suggestion.

I know a very good site that makes quality NFL predictions each week. It will mean a little more investment, but I think you will make it into the prizes, since you will have a big advantage over everyone. Heck the people who won last year may have even gone down the same route. The site is Inside the Numbers - http://www.itnsports.com. Plus they will be a big help achieving that hot start you are looking for.

They are having an auction on ebay right now as a promo and charity fund raiser for habitat for humanity. It looks like you can get a membership from them for super cheap. Bidding starts at $25 bucks.

If thats not your cup of tea, I'll make take the best shot I can to help you out now. (I made ok pre season picks last year, but definitely improved as the season went on using the site).

Rule of thumb #1: If you are in doubt, take a home team! Home teams average winning almost 60% of the time since 1990. The ESPN anaylsts last year averaged getting 57% of their picks right. They would have done better if he had just taken the home team every time.

The Jets will be a playoff contender with Favre. Remember though that he struggles on turf and in domes.

My true darkhorse to contend for a Super Bowl appearance is the Jacksonville Jaguars. They play great D and have a very good history of winning at home. They will be tested coming out of the AFC South.

My team that will likely surprise people is the San Francisco 49ers. The NFC West will continue to be a weak conference, and this team was young over the last few years, but now has some experience. Plus my referring site tells me they will be much improved on their 5-11 record from last year. I'd pick them to go 9-7.

I'm sure you will hear a ton about the:

Chargers, Patriots, Cowboys, Colts, Giants, Steelers. Everybody likes them to do something big.

I hope this has helped, and again don't be afraid to get a little help from a website. I'm sure some of your competitors are!

Good Luck! (Feel free to contact me with how you are doing over the season, I'm curious to know!)

  3. sorry i dont follow. :(

  4. playoff teams

    AFC

    patriots

    colts

    chargers

    browns or steelers

    jets

    jaguars

    NFC

    cardinals

    saints

    cowboys

    vikings

    giants

    eagles

Brett Favre will do good because they have a weak schedule

patriots colts jaguars and chargers are locks for the playoffs unless injuries occur.

the browns had a great year last year and got better in the offseason and never count out the steelers

the NFC east is stacked and i think they will all have good years and im picking the giants to make the playoffs because they surprised me last year and i dont wanna just forget about them this year and be wrong

the cardinals are gonna win the west since the seahawks lost alexander

    saints defense is improved

aaron rodgers will struggle and vikings will win the north

other teams that should be good are the titans redskins and if they can find a good qb then the bears the raiders have also gotten way better
