  1. Theres a walmart of karate school down the road from our dojo and they have a year long contract for 90 dollars a month. They don't learn a thing and they get a new belt each month regardless of there skill. So basically your paying for your own belt for who knows how much.

Try to avoid the american freestyle dojos or the annese or whatever they call themselves. Try and find a good traditional dojo something like goju-ryu, shito-ryu, judo, or aikido. Stay away from taikwondo unless your into sport martial arts. Try to find a good system that has deep roots in all the systems but isn't all out for the money, I only pay 60 dollars a month and go 4 times a week and most places that charge 100 a month only let you come maybe twice a week. It took me 5 years to earn my shodan and still I need to learn alot more.

Remember, just because you get your black belt doesn't mean you've graduated.

  2. At my school the due's are 45.00 a month, and this includes 3 two hour classes a week. 100's of dollers each month is outragous. i suppose they want you to sign a contract also? Guaruntee you a black Belt in so long?

Some ideas to try are looking at community centers,. Some of the best teachers can be found there. They also have no overhead, so that drops the price. You may also try the local YMCA, as many offer reasonible prices on their MA classes.

To the idiot that said karate is weak, go home you MMA poser. The fact is that more importent then what style you take is finding a good instructor, and a school that trains realisticly. What style is secondary. There are many good answers about what to look for in an instructor and school, and what to avoid, just use the search feature.

Many of your best teachers will be the lowest cost, and probably not even be teaching in a "school" just because many teach just to pass the art on, and the rewards they get from the growth in their students far outweigh any monitary compensation they get.

  3. well I'm not tryin to insult you but that is the average price when learning martial arts

  4. get a job you cheapskate !

  5. You HAVE TO BUST YOUR A** to find one for free..... I did it years ago... but not for free, just someone to teach me....and have never looked back. This is my life, and I live every inch of it. If you feel and act that way you too will find a person such as I have found. I wish you the best. Remember, if they worry about you testing "on time" leave them. They are no good.

  6. karate is lame anywayz, if u go MA go ju-jitsu, i think alot of cops know it so u could prob train w/ them for free...

but aye u should go into boxing instead, its better excersise and its tighter, go look up ur local gyms, its real cheap n most gyms are free... if u end up competeing its only 50$ for a yr license btw... gl, peace....

  7. well i dont think there is any place yew could get it for FREE.

But at the Recreation Center its only like $20's. So yeah. That'll probably the cheapest.

  8. Where do you live? you should check out other martial arts. have you ever heard of Bando. It is amazing training and won't be as expensive
