  1. 1. -2(5x-4) - (4x+1)

Use the distributive property on both sets of parenthesis

    get (-10x+8) + (-4x-1)

    Simplify the variables

    get (-14x+8) - 1

The parenthesis are no longer needed as everything in it is simplified as much as possible

    get -14x+8 - 1

    Simplify

    Final answer: -14x+7

    2. |15y + 10| for y = -3/5 (If you mean y = -3/5, it's unclear to me)

    Substitute y for -3/5

    |15(-3/5) + 10|

    Simplify

    get |-9 + 10|

    Simplify

    Final answer: |1| or 1

    2. Is not 19

  2. oh man! im doing those in class night now!!

    1st you need to distribute:

    -10x + 8 - 4x + 1

    Then you just combine like-terms:

    -14x + 7

    then on the other one..

    |15*3/5 +10|

    1st you would take 15/1 multiplied (*) by 3/5:

    45/5 which reduces to 9/1

    then add them together:

    |9 + 10 |= 19

    how did you get 1?

  3. the first one is -10x +8 -4x +1. the u get -14x+9
