  1. neither can be factored..you must use the quadratic function

    x=(-b+sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a), x=(-b-(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

  2. factor them or use the quadratic equation if u cant factor it

    for the first 1:

    x^2 + x - 1 = 0

                                                    ______________

    plug into the quadratic:     -1 +-  / 1^2 - (4)(1)(-1)

                                         -------------------------------------

                                                      2(1)

                                                      __

                                            -1 +-  / 5

                                           ----------------

                                                 2

                                                           __

                                             x = -1 + / 5

                                                  ------------

                                                       2

                                                  and

                                                         __

                                            x = -1 - / 5

                                                  -----------

                                                      2

    for the second question:

    x^2 - 3x - 3 = 0

    (a) - (b) - (c) = 0

    just use the quadratic equation as i did in the first one

                                          __________

        the equation is    -b +- / b^2 - 4ac

                                 ---------------------------

                                            2a

  3. omfg wut is that lol
