for the first 1:

x^2 + x - 1 = 0

plug into the quadratic:     -1 +-  / 1^2 - (4)(1)(-1)

                                         x = -1 + / 5

for the second question:

x^2 - 3x - 3 = 0

(a) - (b) - (c) = 0

just use the quadratic equation as i did in the first one
