Question:

Help my Freezer isn't running

I have a Refrigerator/freezer unit and randomly the freezer will decide to stop working or just barley keeps things cold. Then after a spell of this it'll almost freeze things in the refrigerator part. It just seems like a strange problem to me. Today is one of the off days for the freezer which isn't helped by the fact that our cat opened it up last night so it was open all night thawing. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas on the subject?

  1. It sounds like your timer for harvesting is going out. This small box tells the heater that defrost the coils so they don't over freeze. Sometimes it is located at the bottem of the unit in front or back at the small plastic foot cover that covers the drain pan. It has a small s***w on it. Turn it till it clicks and this should harvest(heat) the coils. If this has happend to many times it could freeze up around the fan that circulates the air inside the unit. Check and make sure all the air holes in the unit are clear and not blocked by a plastic bag or something crazy like that. Follow the air ducts from the freezer to the fridge. You may have ice inside clogging up the circulation. Try totally defrosting the unit first. Room temp for 48 hours. Yeah I know !!! Use a few coolers. Try these first if it still persist you will have to call a service man or just get a new one.

  2. I had a similar problem, it turned out to be the fan that blows the cold air. I went to an appliance parts store with my model number and bought a new one it cost about $35 and my husband installed it in about 30 mins. Hope this helps.

  3. When is the last time you cleaned the condenser under or behind the box, and if there is a cardboard cover behind the box near the floor do not throw away put it back in place or the box will not work right.

  4. it's not?
