Help my Rabbit! Why does my bunny have a wet mouth and chin?

Until a week ago, I noticed my bunny starting to have a wet mouth, in the cheek area, and under the chin where his neck is. His fur in those areas is soaking wet...but I can't identify the wet subtance. I thought it might be from his water bottle, maybe he gets it on his face and stuff. He still eats, drinks, and poops normally. He had this same wetness when I first found him, but it went away. Almost two years later it came back. Any thoughts????

  1. Im not sure why, but make sure you bring it to the vet. its very important, did it have its checkups every year? or month? rabbits are very delicate pets and need special care. They get sick easily if u don't do something about it.

hope this helps alil.. poor rabbit! T^T

  2. do you have any weird uncles?

  3. I'm not sure my rabbit wasn't doin that or anything. If i was u i would take it to a vet.

    =]good luckk

  4. Has your rabbit been hot?  When rabbit's get really hot they will lean their head back and open their mouth.  Normally then they will get wet around the mouth, nose and chin.  The only other things I can think of is if it is a rabbit with a big dewlap, some rabbits will get the dewlap in the bowl of water and get it wet, but you use a water bottle.  Your rabbit may also be laying up against the water bottle.  Your rabbit could possibly have a cold, but normally you would see matting or wetness on the insides portion of the front legs.  Or it could be an abscess leaking fluid.

I doubt it is a tooth problem.  And you didn't mention anything about the eyes watering.

  5. My bunny has had the same thing. It only lasted about a day, and she was fine.

  6. I had this problem with my rabbit about a month ago. It can be serious if not treated so get him to the vets now! His back teeth are growing up and could be growing into this eyes/tearducts causing him to dribble! It can cost about £50 but you need the teeth cut down soon! Rabbits teeth are always growing so try giving him wood, cardboard and hay to keep them down. Hope this help!

  7. well bunnies have a gland under their chin that secrete stuff. But if this is a new thing and you've had your bunny for a while it might be an infection. take the little guy to the vet
