  1. the consistency of the poo can change at this time, and as they are learning and getting used to bowel movements they can be quite daunting for them so they grut and carry on until the poo comes out.  Doctors class constipated in babies as hard pebble like poo.

Dont give them prune juice or sugar that is not good for the baby at that age.

lay him on his back and pull legs up to help him. It will come out i would try to hang in there.

  2. You could give your baby a small bottle of water but I would not give prune juice at just a week old and defiantly not that sugar stuff someone suggested

Water helps all of us to go to bathroom

Also, you may want to make sure your baby is good w/ the formula given if you are formula feeding

They make a medicine for babies who are constipated so ask your pharmacist but I don't think this is a doctor call unless it persist

  3. Nothing but abit of cooled boiled water is all u will be able to give not too much cos u dont want him filling up on empty calories.. Check wit ur doc.

    goodluck

  4. Dear Anxious Mother,

Please boil drinking water and make it lukewarm and give the baby at regular interval of 1hour. Please feed him breast milk only. Do not eat junk food yourself or non vegetarian food your self since you are lactating. Eat food made from green leafy vegetables, drink milk and other healthy fruits like bananas. Do not give him powdered milk which may be the cause.

Hope that should take care of the baby's constipation

  5. Massage his tum using cream or baby oil, circle his legs, try a bath then put something like vaseline round his a**s.

Give plenty of fluids, make sure you are making his formula correctly.

If he is breast fed (unlikely if he is constipated) eat prunes, drink fruit juices.

  6. prune juice, just 1 ounce and then some water

  7. is your baby breastfed? if it is it wont need to p**p it gets all it needs and there is no waste  call your doctor before you give a baby that young any thing dont worry it will be fine

  8. Give him NOTHING until you speak to his doctor- and do that ASAP. He is too young to be trying self-remedies. If he is constipated, there may be a problem with his digestive and elimination system- or he could just be constipated. The doctor needs to figure that out, so call!

  9. OMG PLZ!!!! THE DOCTOR!!!!

  10. Put him in a warm bath, ASAP, and keep him in there for a while, even if he poops in there it is okay.  Rub his belly gently with a washcloth and you can mix some prune juice with boiled water ! oz prune juice, 4 oz water and give to him when cooled.  If you are breast feeding and you don't want this to happen again, wat a high fiber diet, Try raisin bran or mini wheats for breakfast and it will help a lot, or Fiber 1 bars.  The bath works wonders though!  You can also bicycle his legs while he is in there!!!  Good luck, this worked for me, hope it works for you!

  11. hmm, prune juice helps

but, I would go with karo syrup..

It works really well with my little one..

Just put like 1/2 a teaspoon in with his bottle..He shall be pooping in no time..

  12. when bubs is straining lie him on his back and lift his legs up to his chest this may help him but I would take him to the doc.  good luck

  13. Take him to the doctors, i think would be for the best

  14. Oowwww poor wee thing, go to the pharmacy and get a weleda remedy, which is a syrup base drops formula which helped my little girl, prune juice is ok, but check as he is so young. Also a little amount of squeezed filtered orange juice can help too.

  15. hi there...if your baby is being breastfed normally constipation does not occur however formula fed babies do tend to suffer from constipation regularly and i was once told it was normal for my baby to not have a bowel movement for up to 21 days - i however felt this to be unnecessary and sought advice from doctors, etc.  I was told to buy coloxol drops, available over the counter or give a little prune juice...both of these are effective as for some time the drops were unavailabe and i used the prune juice...

    good luck

  16. my baby was constipated at a week old too and the midwife told me to give him water and to gently push his knees onto his chest,i now also use prune juice, about 10ml in 50ml water and coloxyl drops if very bad, but dont use this all the time. if ur still not sure call ur local child health nurse or dr.

  17. Water with a bit of brown sugar in it.... works reallly well

  18. If he is breast fed, just some water will help.  If he is bottle fed, water or diluted prune juice.  I'd prefer just the water with or without a very little brown sugar because he is only a week old.

  19.    If he takes formula I'd switch it and you can try a good tummy massage, but make sure you rub his tummy clock wise. To help make him more comfortable other than that you can hold him on your lap facing out on his side with a little of pressure on his tummy. It makes them feel a little better. If it's lasts more too long call the doctor. A lot of times they won't even do anything for three weeks anyway. Stupid huh? I hope he feels better.
