Ok, so its my 30th birthday this weekend. I have gone back to college to study, therefore funds are low...I asked my bank to change my repayment date for my direct debits and bank loan to 22nd August....they emailed me to say its all done. They even clarified and confirmed the dates!! THEN today, I check my account...theres no money in there.

Im so upset! Its my b.day celebrations tomorrow! I cant even afford to go!

I spoke to a manager at my bank tonight who was helpful but couldnt refund the mistake! he did try to refund a charge from May to soften the blow. He said hes 99% sure the reversed charge should come back to my account tomorrow..but theres a chance it wont as its a saturday! does anyone know if it can still go in tomorrow? My bank is HSBC.

Im not sure how these things work and I am so upset! They have left me with nothing! its going to ruin my celebrations! help! xx

  1. My guess is you'll get your money refunded tomorrow.  Banks work on business days.  Friday business occurs Friday morning.  Monday "business" usually hits Saturday morning - at least that's how it works with my accounts at Suntrust Bank.  I bet yours is the same.  So, don't fret.  It will get there if it gets there.  And again, if not, follow the other advice and borrow a few bucks until Monday when you do get the refund.

Having said that, banks still suck.  They kill us with fees, and policies which are designed to pile fees upon fees.  It's awful.  Don't get me started.  ;)

    Happy Birthday!!!

  2. theres absolutely nothing u can do unfortunately but hope that something goes in, do they have it on record that you changed the dates for your direct debits? if so they are at fault then I would take it higher, isnt there anyone a friend or someone who can lend u some cash so you can celebrate your birthday tomorrow? If the cash isnt in I would write a letter for monday morning and send it straight to their head office telling them everything that has happened and how they left you with no funds for your birthday and it ruined a planned event, I would then demand they compensate you and threaten taking legal action against them you should find they will soon change their tune, I really hope you can get something sorted out Gilly xif its any consolation I worked full time and was with lloyds tsb my wages went in around 900 quid I was a single parent at the time I had cancelled 2 ten pound cheques I went to withdraw cash to take my kids for a meal and I couldnt get any money out, they had been giving me bank charges without sending me letters constantly everyday a 35quid charge for a month they left me and my kids with nothing for a whole week until it was sorted out then after the week went by it still wasnt fixed I lost all my wages to them and they had the cheek to keep adding charges that accrued to nearly 3,000quid in a matter of 3 months! I am now fighting them through court to get the charges back and they closed my account down because of this its terrible banks think they are a law unto themselves.

  3. These things are part of life and it happens. You should always have have some savings for a rainy day. I would suggest borrowing from friends and family and repaying them when you get refund.

  4. Friends don't let friends pay on their birthday.
