Help my boss is a JERK, how do you deal with such an *** for a boss?

I work for a man who thinks he is a celebrity. He lifted his own company from $500 to a multi million dollar company. I worked for his company for five years, after I left he asked me to be his Admin Assistant. I did not know what that meant but I took the job. He uses foul language with me, talks down to me. He even had the guts to tell, "that the little box inside my head is not working." (My brain) He has told me that he is going to fire me, because I do not know how to do my job. Which formt he start he knew that I didnt know. I cant afford to loose my job, but how do put up with such person? The worst thing that it is a family business, so the problems from home come to the office too. I cant get him to work on anything, and that messes up my job. Help please!

He sounds like he needs to take some classes in batters intervention. He's an abuser. And you're the punching bag, figuratively speaking. I would start looking for a different boss to be an administrative assistant to. I'd bet you're good at what you do. Do this before you end up with ulcers or worse. Scarred for life from the abuse. Just don't quit your job before you have something else lined up. Just imagine what it's like to be married to or living with this guy. You have the option to walk away use it. Or if revenge is your game, be smart, calm and cool headed. Use a tape recorder (mini) and get his abuse on tape without his knowledge. And get a lawyer to represent you. It is against the law to treat people in a manner that causes emotional stress in the work place. Keep your ducks in a row and your side of the street clean. You  probably have a case that at worse will embarrass him, at best will bring you a judgment in cash. Either way it will teach him a lesson in how to treat people. It shouldn't matter what is happening outside the work place, all that should be left at home when he comes to work.
