My power plug apparently fell out of my latop last night and it died. I plugged it back in this morning, turned it on, and it made a weird beeping noise. It wouldn't quit, so I hard shut it down.

When I restarted it, all was well, except that now I no longer have an internet connectivity icon in the taskbar. I opened "Network Connections" and the only one that even shows up is "1394 Connection" no wireless connection, NOTHING! Help??!! How do I get it back??!

Thanks!

  1. This could be caused by several things. The first thing that you want to do is check to see if you still have your wireless device detected. To do this, right click on MY COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES from the pulldown list. Select the HARDWARE tab at the top of the window. Then select DEVICE MANAGER. Click on the + sign to the left of NETWORK ADAPTERS. Does a wireless device appear? (usually has 802.11 B/G or WLAN in the entry) If it does not appear, at the top of the list of items, you should see one item that sticks out further to the left than the rest of the items.(it will be the name of your computer) If you right click on that, a bar will pop up asking for you to scan for hardware changes. Select it by left clicking. If it finds the device, it will automatically load the drivers for it. If it can't find it, you may have a damaged wireless card. If the wireless card appeared originally when you opened device manager, check to see if there are any errors with it. (if there is an error, you will see a red or yellow icon to the left of the device). If there are errors, you may have to reload the drivers for it. If there are no errors, you can try to "restart" the device. To do this, double click on the wireless device. When the window opens, go to the bottom of the window and select "disable the device" in the drop down box. Click OK. (This will close the window) Double click on the device again, and this time select "enable the device". Click OK. See if there is a wireless icon in your network connections now. If it is still not there, you may need to reboot the computer. When the computer comes back up check for the wireless connection. If it is still not there, you may have to perform a system restore (if there are any available)... If none of those things fix it, you should consider taking the laptop to a local service facility and have a technician take a look. Good luck.

  2. make a system restore then make sure you go to the internet prompt to make sure rhat your IP adress is still there

  3. Go to control panel, systems, hardware tab - click device manger, look under the network. make sure the drivers are properly installed and make sure they are not disabled.

  4. Make a system restore a few days back in time.

  5. System Restore may resolve your issue, if the device is still functioning.

You can also Right-Click MY COMPUTER- Properties - Hardware tab - Device Manager. Go to the network icon. If it is listed there with a red X, reinstall the drivers. If it is NOT listed at all, Go to Control Panel, Add Hardware & you'll be able to reinstall it there IF it is still functioning.

If these steps don't work, you may need a new wireless adapter.
