  1. Press the power button until your laptop turns, then restarted it and keep pressing the F8 key.  This should give you different option to start your computer.  Try last know good configuration.

  2. Try this, while your computer is booting up, start pressing F8. You have to do this before Windows XP starts loading. So it would be better, if you start pressing it a little after you start the computer.

Then a screen will come, in it, select 'Safe Mode'. Once it loads, try opening an account. If it opens, then, run a few virus checks, see if your anitvirus finds anything.

And when you say it freezes do you mean that you can see the wallpaper AND move your mouse? Can you move the mouse or does it not move?

Please add additional info to your question and answer these few questions of mine.

  3. I would do a defragment of your drive. This should be done overnight if you have a large capacity hard drive. If not, it will take about 3 hours. Its purpose is to help your computer run more smoothly by compacting files - it does not effect the way your PC runs. Highly recommended. Look on google for more info and to see how to defragment your drive. Hope that helps.
