my desktop background picture changed into a message that says something like "Your Computer is in danger, download an antivirus" then the background changes into another one that has a large biohazard sign, and inder the sign, it says something similar to the previous background. But this one does not allow me to use any shortcuts on my desktop, if i click on any one of my shortcuts, they send me to a website that offers me an antivirus.. if i attempt to go to my internet browser, a mesage that looks like the the one that comes up when there is no internet connection appears and it states "your computer can be under a threat" under this message, there are two links, one offers the website that has been bugging me for all this time, saying that it is safer and what not. the other link states "browse unprotected" i chose the second link and this is how i am on the internet right now. i do not know what to do.. i already scanned my computer for threats using the antivirus that ive had for a while and it can find any threats or such..

please help me!

  1. I have seen this before.  You can use Spy bot search and destroy and it will mostly fix it.  Unfortunately it may not get rid it completely.  This is a pretty serious infection by Anti Virus 2008 pro which is a Russian based scam.  My friend had this happen to him and we spent so much time trying to fix it, the best thing to do was the completely wipe the PC.  But maybe you will have better luck than we did. It changes a lot of settings and it is a pain, so if you have recovery CDs and backups of your data, you might be better off wiping it.  We thought it was gone, but it came back the next day. So it was wasteful to keep trying to clean it.  You can go into safe mode (F8 before windows loads) to backup your data if your PC is too slow while in normal windows.

  2. you have downloaded a not so wonderful program called antivurusxp.

from the run command type msconfig

this will bring up a list of all programs starting up on your computer

remove teh check box for everyone you dont know.  Then restart your computer

then download AVG from http://www.filehippo.com, let it do a full scan and it should remove this nasty program.  Also check you add remove programs, you will find it listed there as well, but removing it here will not get rid of it completely.

Also do a windows update and install there malious software removal.  it will stop this from happening again

  3. This happened to me last week!

I downloaded AVG (free) and used it to remove the antivirus thing. It is fine that you browsed unprotected, as it is very fake. Whatever you do, do not do banking online because this whole 'Antivirus' thing is spying on your computer.

It is just a rude trick that holds your computer hostage until you pay them $50.

  4. Have the people at btexpress look at your computer. The site is btexpress.page.t and it free.

  5. If it's being hacked that you're afraid of, try scanning with a spyware program. I've used the Spyware Dr by pc tools before and that has helped in the past. If you're looking for some freeware, spybot is a good solution. You can get that at http://www.download.com

Have you installed any recent programs? If you have, they may have also installed the spyware onto your computer. Try to remember if you've had any recent downloads and if you desktop started acting crazy on you.

You may want to try a system restore to restore back to an earlier point, before that program was installed. Hope that helps!

  6. I also had some problems with my computer this weekend.  I haven't had any problems in the 3 years I own my.  Its scary.  I'm reading all the good suggestions.
