ok its 3:30 where i live and around 11:30 this morning my daughter(23months) took a pen from my office and took off running with it when I saw her with the pen I asked her to give it to me she began to run with it and tripped on her mini-couch and flipped backwards and stabbed her mouth somewhere and it began to bleed. i picked her up right away and attempted to find where it stabbed her, I couldn't find it! well she spit out a lil bit of blood one time let me rinse her mouth out and began to play again. However since then she has just been bursting out in tears and screaming every 10-15 min and is slobbering really bad. I live in a really small town and ran her into the clinic (we have no ER) and they examined her and said she was fine but should I run her into the more advanced ER about an hour away from me in Lubbock Tx. She is a very talkative lil girl and since then she is barely talking to me and I gave her a popsicle to see if it would sooth her and she is sitting nest to me just messing with it which is not like her at all.

  1. if it really stabbed her, you should take her to the ER . i don't know why the clinic would say she was alright, don't take a chance, it could get worse.

  2. In your position I would definitely take her to the ER. Firstly, you know your child, and if she's not acting like herself then it's better to get her checked out and find out you over-reacted than to leave it be and have something be really wrong with her. Secondly, I live an hour or so away from the hospital too and get why you might be leery about going; it can be hard to keep a hurt child settled on a trip that far. You should really just take her in though; both of you will feel better once you know everything's okay.

  3. To ease your mind and to see if your little girl is alright, I'd say to take the trip to the ER. That's the only way you will find out for sure. Besides, they can tell you what to do for her too.

  4. Take her.

  5. What did the clinic find?  Was there a small cut or something?  Surely they would have found 'something' in order to tell you "she was fine".  It could be that she just poked her gum or something and it just hurts.  Toddlers tend to whimper and fuss/cry when they hurt....even if it is a little hurt.   IF she gets worse, they yes, I would consider the drive.

  6. ON NO POOR BABY I HATE TO SEE BABIES CRY.. IT MAKES ME WANT TO CRY, WELL I THINK YOU SHOULD TAKE HER HUNNY BECAUSE THE WAY I LOOK AT IT, YOU NO YOUR CHILD BETTER THEN THE PERSON WHO TOLD YOU SHE WAS OK! SO YOU TAKE HER TO SOMEONE ELSE AND GET A SECOND OPINION! AND TRY AND SEE IF SHE LETS YOU OPEN HER MOUTH, AND LOOK AROUND HER GUM AREA, AND MAKE SURE SHE DOESNT GO TO SLEEP RIGHT AWAY, I HOPE ALL IS WELL AND IF YOU NEED ANYTHING ELSE FEEL FREE TO WRITE ME!!!

  7. take her to the ER no matter how far it is..your child's health has got to be priority #1. :) hope she is okay..

  8. Its only an hour away.  You may as well make the trip, it will make you feel better.  Your girl might just be a bit sore and maybe a bit swollen in the area where she was hurt.  Every kid cries when they skin their knee right?  You could wait until morning, see if she cheers up and feels better?  But if you are really stressing, you might as well go and check her out again.

  9. Your daughter should be examined by a DR.  If the clinic had one, then that is most likely a correct report that your daughter is going to be fine.

Several things--Punctures are particularly painful and problematic.  This can hurt for days.  Your Dr. should have provided you with some pain relievers--if not try over the counter stuff for children (NOT A DR so use your own judgement).

ensure that nothing is still in the mouth(Puncture)

    Pray for quick healing

    Distract her regularly.

  10. I would take her to the ER.  If anything it will put your mind at rest, although she has maybe bruised her mouth which would obviously be sore.  But it would be worth the trip I think I would do it with my daughter who is 16 months.  Hope she is ok.

  11. Take the child to the ER in Lubbock and take her now. Considering her current behavior, she needs to be looked at. There's no reason to take any chances. I completely understand small town clinics and hospitals... I'm originally from small area in Louisiana. But take her in to be sure.
