basically my dog chews her paws and scratches ALL the time. she is 5 and has to wear a lampshade thing on her head. we try and take it off but all she does is chew her paws and scratch. the main reason im asking this question is because last night at about 3 oclock in the morning i came downstairs and there was blood EVERYWHERE... she had managed to get her lampshade offf and scratch the side of her face. now there is no fur there and a huge scab. Im really scared that she will be put down as i recently lost my other dog. i love her very much so if somebody could help me i would really apreciate it.

we have tried all sorts of medication including: ear drops, flea ticks, and putting her paws in salt water (which apparently helps.) the vet said he would operate on her ears (thats what causes her to scratch) but he said he wouldnt operate until her ears got better. my mum has been really stressed as we dont think they will get better.

someone help PLEASE!!!!

  1. Get her to a vet. She'll be so happy when it's all gone. Read the article below to see what the possibilities could be.

The food could be causing an allergic reaction too. Ask the vet if maybe you should try boiling chicken and rice as a meal for a bit to see if maybe she's allergic to some common ingredient in dog food.

  2. might have flees if not might have a reaction to the food u give it

  3. sounds like allergies to certain pet foods...ask your vet about possible allergies, may need to change her diet

  4. you dog sounds like it has a compulsive disorder (yes just like what human can get) It sounds like you have tried everything and if your positive its not food related or flees then your dog might need medication.  My friend had a dog that would NOT stop scratching and was finally diagnosed after lots of money was spent that her dog had a compulsive disorder, the dog is now on medication and has stopped.

  5. My dog also scratches all the time and has the same scabs and has even cut her ear open, so I know the kind of stress your going through. One question I would like to ask is whether your dog has droopy ears? If she does one of the reasons she my be scratching is because her ears aren't clean. She doesn't have to have earmites to have itchy ears, just waxy ones. I have found that using vitamin E cream helps to sooth the skin and reduces the sratching. I too have spent heaps of money (hundreds) on special food but they never really worked. So maybe you should try a natural dry food, I feed my girl Beneful and have found that she doesnt scratch as bad as she used to. One more thing I use is Betadine ointment. This is especially useful for when she scratches herself to the point of bleeding. It helps to sooth her and kills any infection in the wound. Betadine is available at the local chemist and even comes in a cream/wash.

    Well I hope this helps
