ok...so I have been driving for only six months. I did not see the stop sign and I forgot to stop. The cops caught me and he gave me a ticket. He also explained to me that I can not drive any minors because I only have 6 months of experience. He told me that he can get the car impounded but he said he would let me off the hook since i did not know.. Do you think my insurance would get hire. I still got the ticket for "failure to stop at a stop sign". Also, how much money do you think insurance would go up and how much is the ticket going to cost? thank you so much. I live in California in orange county

  1. Failure to stop at a stop sign is a moving violation and your insurance will go up, check to see if you are eligible for traffic school so the charge point will not go on your record, and therefore not raise your insurance.

  2. Hi Casey,

First of all, your story sounds slightly off.

If you didn't see the stop sign, then you didn't forget to stop.

Sounds like the cop was pretty nice to you though really. I would say though that you were likely distracted by the other young folks in your car. The laws about minors transporting minors were created to help younger and less experienced drivers stay more focused on driving. Driving for young people is seen by lawmakers as a way for young people to socialize. The cop could have been mean and given you more trouble. There is an old saying that goes Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. I am sure that cop knows the old saying. Nice cop, I would say! He did cut you a break there. Sure, he wrote you one ticket. Maybe he felt that the fine would help you to learn to be more careful. I know, getting a ticket is never fun. In fact, it pretty much sucks. It's not the end of the world though. And it sure beats getting broadsided at a missed stop sign! So there is a reason to smile! :)

I don't live in California, so I don't know how much your ticket will be, but if it's like most other places, you should get off for about a hundred bucks or so. As for insurance, I doubt it will change for just one ticket, but I would be more careful because multiple tickets will.

  3. get someone to pay for it or do it your self (slow down).

  4. Your insurance will go up at renewal.  When your policy renews or when you look for a new insurance company they will automatically pull up your driving record so they will find out and it will go up.  I don't think anyone can tell you how much it will go up, there's too many variable and it might go up anyway for various reasons, for examply the crime rate in your area increases, then its more likely it will get stolen and so your insurance may go up to compensate for that.  You will just have to wait to see what they quote you.  I live in Ohio and none of my tickets have been over $150, I think my brother had one for $250, however I'm not positive but I would assume it'd be higher in California seeing as how everything costs more out there.
