  1. when u set up a new aquarium, you cant add fish immediately. the water has chlorine and other chemicals that are toxic to fish that must cycle out. The best amount of time for your tank to cycle is 4 weeks! i would consult your fish retailer to get help with ur new tank.

  2. Did you add the same water from the store? Never do that, next time try to get all of the water out of the bag if possible before adding the fish to your tank. You should have also waited untill your tank had time to regulate itself. Well all I can say is pray that your fish are just stressed out, and come out of the shock that they are in. If it should happen that they don't survive, wait for a week then get new buddies and drain as much water out of the bag before putting them in your tank. Good luck.

  3. my guess is you upgraded to a bigger tank right?

you might of added too much new water. did you use the same filter and same gravel? if not, your fish may be suffering from new tank syndrome...

    OR

you might of stressed out the tetras when you added them in the tank. Try turning off the lights in the aquarium, see if that helps.

  4. How long did you wait to put the fish in the tank after you filled it up with water? Did you treat it with chemicals? You need to treat the water and let it sit for about one night before you get fish and put them in the water. They could either be dying from shock or from the chlorine level in you tap water. You have to wait until it's the right temperature for the fish too. The ammonia level is probably way too high for the little guys as well. These are all red flags that you must work with next time. Sorry about your fish :( You should do all of the correct things this time and start fresh. Remember to add a very small amount of fish in the tank to begin with.

Some fish are hardier than others, which is probably why your other fish are surviving and your others aren't.

  5. You need to give it time after you add new water, cleaner and heater before putting the fish in. Depending on what kind of fish you have, you may not even need a heater, or your water, even after the cleaner, may not be good (pH levels, etc.)

  6. In my 10 years of fish keeping experience i have come to learn that guppies and tetras can be immune to many diseases your tank may develop. Maybe the buenos aires tetra is old. Maybe you have bad water treatment thus you will need to test that. Maybe The water is to hot or to cold and wen you moved the fish it shocked them at the temperature change. Maybe the filter is not working. Maybe it was just resting or laying eggs. I really hope this helps.

  7. You have to wait awhile before adding fish. New tanks have to run for a while to get through the nitrogen cycle, otherwise the fish will die. And adding a lot of fish at a time is also bad, it throws the whole tank off balance. It also could be the water. If you just dump tap water into your tank, it contains ammonia which is deadly for fish. You can buy chemicals to treat water.

You can look and see what differs, and then go from there.

And what do the other tetras look like?
