My 6 year old daughter came home Friday sick from school w/ only fever of 103.2 nothing else, the fever came and went until Tuesday(at times I thought she was better), took her to doctors on Tuesday, negative for strep doctor said take antibiotics and go to hospital get blood work check platelets, acted strange, had me upset, called back later to tell me her platlets were 62, low but enough, and that last time they were 153, now she has been taking cyphlexin(antibiotic) since Tuesday evening, last night she complained of v****a pain, she has since said no more pain there, coughs some but doctor said no strep, Im lost, her fever goes away then comes with no real other symptoms, almost three days on meds and no change what do I do?

Has anyone else ever seen this or went through it? Should I be worried?

  1. Check out the website www.kdforum.com.    I don't want to alarm you, but I want to make you aware.    My 6 year old was (finally) diagnosed with kawasaki disease after several trips to the pediatrician and me demanding a referral to a specialist.   The disease mimics strep (high fever, sore throat).   My daughter's quick strep test was negative and the 3 day lab was negative also.    My daughter had the high fever for several days and the antibiotic didn't touch the symptoms.         Look over the website to see if anything else fits.    This disease is not common and is almost always misdiagnosed at first.

At the very least, you should make another appointment with the doctor tomorrow and insist on further testing.     Does she have a urinary tract infection?  A quick urine test will rule that out.  How about mono?    Ask for another blood test.

It could just be a stubborn virus that needs to run its course.

Too many people take the word of physicians without ever questioning it as that is how the population was taught to think.     A good doctor will not question your motives when the health of your child is at stake.

Good luck.   Hope all turns out well!

  2. Antibiotics work on infections only, in the case of a virus.... all the antibiotics in the world won't make the fever go away.

With a high fever like that keep her on tylenol/motrin to reduce the fever.  People often act strange when having a high fever, so that by itself is not bad.  6 yr olds shouldn't be having vaginal pain, however.  That is something that needs to be looked into.

Also check her out head to toe looking for bug bites or rashes.  An allergic reaction to one of the many insects out there can cause a short term high fever, then subside only to reappear when  bitten again.

  3. dont be worried just pray God will fix every thing

  4. Sometimes one antibiotic is not effective on certain infections.  Call the dr. and give him a report.  Suggest perhaps you need to try a different antibiotic.  If he doesn't take immediate action, or come up with a logical explanation for your child's illness, I think I'd take her to the hospital.  You need a diagnostician.

  5. Could be a UTI--a bladder infection--causes a lot of pain and fever.  The medication she is on should help but may take awhile.  Call her doctor.  Make sure you are giving her tylenol or motrin for the fever.

  6. it's ok i have a 6 yearold cousin as well and my aunt said that it is normal to hav it. it is just a stage they are going through. just make sure you are doing what the doctor sais and put a warm rag on her head everynight be4 she goes to sleep. it will ease up the pain on her the next morning.

    good luck and thankyou!!

  7. sounds silly but it may teething.  she is at the age of adult teeth trying to push their way through.

if she was a hard teether as an infant, it may not have changed much.

  8. You may need a stronger antibiotic.  Call your doctor.  If you are not happy, take her to see another doctor so you feel better.

  9. First of all, breathe.  This is the season to catch all of the fun viruses.  Watch her.  If she is lethargic, has a loss of appetite or any other major symptoms, bring her back to the doctor.  Keep her hydrated, give her chicken soup and lots of love.  She should be better soon!!
