A couple days ago my moms cat gave me the look that something was wrong with him and i said mom something is wrong with bear hes sick, and she said no hes fine, then later water started coming from his mouth, and i told her, and she said its no big deal its just water from his water bowl, so i wiped his mouth off, and then again, it was pouring from his mouth, but she wouldnt listen to me, so i told her i dont want to see or hear about your cats anymore because you wont take care of them! He needs to go to the vet. Well she just calls me and told me that she took him to the vet yesterday, and she wouldnt pay to have any tests done, so the vet said it is probably one of 3 things, either FLV or rabies or parasites, so the vet gave him a shot for parasites, and they are just going to hope for the best. I said what if it is just an allergic reaction? She has chives growing all over her garden, and thinks my step-dad may have put some pesticides out as well. sometimes she feeds them table scraps too, even though she is denying that she hasnt gave them any later (whatever) she doesnt deserve to have cats, and she isnt going to take him back to the vet, is there any home remedy for allergic reactions that she can try? if its rabies or FIV then there isnt anything she can do. If this baby can be cured i will personally go there when she isnt home and take all her cats to the humane society, there is also the issue of what if the other cats catch what he has? She wont even quarantine him from the other cats......please help??? what to do for the poor kitty, i cant be responsible for taking her animals to the vet my own cat is putting me in debt with his urinary problems.

  1. Force your mom to take the cat to a vet for the testing dont let your mom be like mine if she found a stray cat that was sick she wouldnt even take it to the vets.

  2. You are describing "Animal neglect and abuse"

Call the humane society in your area and describe how your mother is NOT taking care of the cat..

They will help you with what you should do..

  3. I wonder if your cat is being exposed to the pesticides. When a cat ingests poison its salivary glands go into overdrive and it gives the appearance of flowing or foaming at the mouth. I totally agree with you, I can't STAND people that get pets and then refuse them proper medical treatment. If you aren't willing to pay a vets bill you shouldn't have the animal right? If you don't care what your mom thinks I would take the cats to the humane society, or at least call them and ask their advice. People who think animals are less than us and just property suck.

  4. I agree with the other two Heather, there isn't much you can do on your own. I'm so sorry.  If it is an allergic reaction you haven't got a clue to what, and there are no "overall" home remedies for such things.

Keep trying to get your mom to do the right thing.

  5. I'm going to tell you this being a previous cat owner and I have a lot of sympathy for you. First, when water starts coming out of there mouth, umm....TAKE IT TO THE DOCTOR AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. How do I say this gently that is the same thing that happened to my cat right before..... it died. I'm really sorry to tell you this, and it isn't contagious and no other cats can catch it, but just to be safe I would keep them apart. Just in case. Comment me later to this answer is the cat laying in one place. That is a big sign, just comment me the answer and I will tell you what is going to happen and what to do for the cat.

  6. The only treatment for allergies is to remove the allergan, and if that can't be done steroids to stop the reaction. I think the vet would have suggested allergies if this was possible tho. I take it they examined the cat's mouth for dental problems?

You had a good suggestion in there - take the cats away from her to the humane society.

    Chalice

  7. To be honest, I would really take my mom's cat right to the vet again if I was in that situation. The cat also needs to get enough water, if it keeps throwing up.

  8. Chives are poisonouse to cats. They can't eat them. This could be the problem. I would simply take to cat and tell your mother that the cat ran away. This may not be the most wanted corse of action but it may help. You should take it to the humane susiety just see if they can help. I am so sorry the best of luck to you.

  9. Without the proper tests, it's untelling what it might be. It could be anything from poisoning, to an infection, to rabies. The cat does need to be separated from the other cats until you find out what is wrong.  I understand that you want to help this poor cat, but without the proper diagnosis there is nothing you can do. If your mom isn't willing to help the cat, it would probably be better off to take it to the humane society.

  10. You'll have to have a vet diagnose him and recommend treatment. If she refuses to get help for the cat, by all means get him somewhere where he can be cared for. Some diseases are contagious and the other cats are definitely in danger if this one is. I had to relieve my dad of his dog for refusing medical care. He was going to shoot him instead so I know how you feel. You can always call animal control. You just have to decide if it's important enough to save the cats and risk your relationship with your mother. That's a call only you can make. Home remedies usually just make things worse so a vet is your only safe bet in curing him. Sorry about your situation. I hope the cats are cared for somehow.  BTW, a vet would not let a suspected rabies case go. By law, if he suspects rabies, he must quaratine the cat.
