Help! my mom is overreacting about my education?

just to start things, i am a good student and i do care about my grades. i'm a straight A student, and coming from an asian family, i know that education is important, but i don't want it to be my life.

-i have tutoring 5 days a week

-i've been going to summer school at a university

-she is signing me up for a 'college 101' class(you just sit and listen about professors ramble about preparing for college there)

-i've already taken my PSATs

-i'm 13

i know that she's doing all of this because she cares about me. i think that this is a big waste of time. i don't want to complain though, because then she'll start yelling on how this will come to my benefit, but c'mon, i'm still just a kid who wants to enjoy their summer.

she told me today that i was going to go to summer school at that same university next year. how do i tell her that i don't want to go without offending her?

  1. Tell her that her expectations are crazy.

    PS she needs help!!!!!!!!

  2. say mom i respect your wishes to make me intellgent but im just a kid and i know college is important but if you keep pushing me  like this school is just goona be a drag and i want to enjoy my life as a teen. your only a teen once and for the rest of you life your an adult i don't wan to grow up to fats. or something like that.idk first thing that came to mind

  3. Tell her your only 13 and you want enjoy the teenage years. You will have plenty of time to get ready for all of that. You are only young once. You need to make mistakes learn and have fun and actually grow.

  4. Do you have another adult who can help you? She is over doing it and it could backfire. Just refuse to go. You have that right.

Call 1-800-4ACHILD  This could be considered mental abuse.

  5. Find another summer activity that you'd really love to do -- one that might also impress your mom.

Not sure what you're into, but I'll throw out a couple of options:

    - Prestigious arts camp (look well-rounded on college apps) like Interlochen

    - Summer science program (I think NASA has one?)

    - Study abroad

    - Volunteer (If you speak another language, you could get a job or volunteer position at a hospital, for example)

Colleges love well-roundedness and volunteerism. They don't make decisions on grades alone (as I'm sure you know).

Good luck! Be a kid while you can!
