Help my poor rat...........?

Question

My rat TJ has a whole bunch of scabs all over his body!! I know rats can get mites so I removed the alpine shavings and threw out all of his wood toys! There were no wood toys in his cage for about a month! I just found the soars 3 days ago! When I gave him a bath!

What else could it be other than mites?

If it is Mites and or something else what can I do to help soothe his soars and for him to stop picking and scratching himself????

Check his nails.They may be too long and when he scratches himself he gets you know what.

It is a rat. Its what they do. Dirty disease ridden creatures..

i was in your sitiuation.

i thought my guinea pig, Nellie, had mites.

but i took her to the vet and she had allergies.

maybe TJ is having an allergic reaction to the new bedding or something in his environment.

they had to give Nellie an allergy shot and they also gave us ointment to put on her sore.

the best thing to do is take TJ to the vet.

they said it has prolly not had enough fruits and veggies!!!!!

Poor thing.

It could be many things (see attached link), but you should probably take it to a vet.  It probably needs antibiotics.
