  1. it might still be the bedding, especially if he's still sneezing. changing bedding once doesn't mean things will automatically go away. he may be more sensitive to things than the other boy. sawdust is extremely dusty, which was why he was sneezing. i had cats once, and any cat litter i got was dusty, so it still could be him sneezing because it's dusty. try paper strips or towels or something for awhile and see if it clears up. if it does it was the bedding, if not it's something else

and if it IS something else, a vet check couldn't hurt, because it could be something other than bedding. rodents are notorious for hiding how sick they really are

    good luck with your boys!

  2. i don't think that either of those beddings are a good choice... really the only correct bedding for rats (that is best for their lungs and wont cause sickness) is either aspen wood shavings (because it is hardwood and all natural with less chemicals in it than pine and cedar) or carefresh bedding .. i recommend carefresh.... i also sometimes use shredded paper for them...

  3. actually it may be the food you are feeding fudge maybe try differen't food and it also might just be that there is something in his nasal passage

oh and please pick me for the best i will answer any question you ever ask!

  4. most rats do sneeze. I know allll mine do and theyre perfectly healthy. I've taken the to the vets plently of times, ad all my vet said is the sneezing could be from they're bedding, dust, grass, anyy type of smell. so it's probably just his allergies, as most rats have. but, you might want to check with a vet, atleast call and ask, just incase. and it could meen alot of serious things, as well.

  5. Most times rats are allergic to woodchips of anykind.

One can purchase cotton or hypo-allergenic paper at any pet store. Cloth bedding (Ex. Old bath towels) can be used and reused for rat bedding; however, it must be washed in hot water without bleach, fabric softener, and scented detergents. Most rats are allergic to woodchips, all rats can be harmed by the use of bleach, and it is always best to avoid scented materials.

Below is a site you can check out for good non allergenic bedding

  6. He may have Blackheads acne. This causes mice to become digested into a large tube with dissiliation holes. Which can also lead to sneezing in some rare cases.

  7. Rats should never be kept on a wood based litter. Sawdust is the worst, the cat litter isnt much better. Look for something paper based such as carefresh, this should help.

Sneezing is a sign of respiritory problems so I would take him to a vet.

BTW nice name, I had a pet called fudge ;)

  8. ALL rats are born with respritory diseases, but they usually don't show signs of it until later in life. My rat Aspen sneezes all the time but she is perfectly fine. We've tried lots of different beddings and we even took her to the vet. He said that she's not going to die from it that she just has a sensitive nose. That might be the same thing with your rat. It could be a sensitive nose like mine or he might have something wrong with him. I think you should take him to a vet that is experienced with rats and get him checked out.

  9. Hi,

Hve you tried taking Fudge to the vets because it may not be something that is clear to the un-proffessional eye, but if smudge is ok then i doubt it is a cold.  Just take him to the vets. hope this helps.x
