Help! my tomatoe plant stems are breaking!!?

when i started growing my tomatoe plants i put the standard cages around them they now have grown pass the cages and when tomatoes start to set on the stems break i have tied stems to the cages but that doesnt help should i just take out the cages and let them grow laying down or what should i do please help

  1. Thin your crop, pick some of the smaller and lighter fruit from each stem and cook them.  That should solve the problem.


  2. I was having same problem, I also have the cages. I tied a lite rope around the whole plant and cage, then I tied cages to tall stakes or fence.

  3. Pinching the tops will promote growth to the fruit. If you continue to let it tower over the top of the cages, all the nutrients will go to the foliage. Remember to feed.

  4. Don't take out the cage!!! Theres a possiblity you could damage the plants more.  I use tomato stakes for all of my tomato plants (120+) and never have a problem.  You might try inserting stakes close to or inside the cage and then tie the plants back.
