Recently we have been receiving two to three calls per day from a private number. (caller id shows private name private number). Usually the callers leave no message but left one saying they needed to talk to my mom urgently and that they were calling from Wells Fargo. The callback number was 1-800-500-6130. My mom had a checking account and a credit card with WF three years ago but paid all balances on the credit and withdrew all money from the checking account and closed the account and card. She called back and asked them that if they wanted to communicate any information to her they would have to do so by mail and hung up. They have kept calling and every time we answer we say the same thing we will not answer unless wells fargo (if it is really them) communicates with us by writing. Did we do the right thing, what would you do in this situation. My mom isn't worried but I am. Help plz.

  1. Well that's likely to be a person phishing for her account details etc... to use her credit card for fraud. Do not answer any questions at all. You don't have to. Yes, they ought to write. Yes, your mum is doing exactly the right thing.

I love how my credit card company rings me to discuss something.. and then they ask the "security questions". I always refuse to answer the security questions because:

    a) they phoned me so they ought to know whio they phoned...

    b) I have no proof that they are who they say they are.

They always offer their number so that I can call them back.

  2. If you consider it excessive you can contact your phone line provider or carrier service to get the number blocked. If you consider any of their actions illegal contact the police as well. They can track pretty much any phone call from the exchange, it just comes up private for the end user.

  3. you are doing the right thing demand it in writing .

  4. Yes i would think that you have done the right thing because for one its a little suspicious with the sudden urgency of the call and that they say the same thing every time without offering an explanation. Telling them to write you is smart because if it really is Wells Fargo then you will see an actual business number.

A suggestion that i have for you is to punch the callers number into google or yahoo and see if it shows any business

  5. you did right thing do not answer the call it is bull****
