  1. Strawberries need steady amounts of water for best fruiting. Strawberries are shallow rooted, they should never be stressed by lack of water but in turn their small root system makes then ideal for pot growth. If you use a clay pot remember clay cools the roots by evaporation so will use more water than nonporous pots but if kept properly moist work very well. Drip systems can be set up to supply water continuously.

Strawberries need a lot of sun but are early fruit so do not need really warm soil. Strawberries prefer a slightly acid soil (pH 5.3 to 6.5) that drains well.

Strawberries can be June bearing, everbearing or dayneutral. See link for details and how to grow info.

Several companies have developed hanging systems that mount flat to a fence or wall.

  2. I've seen people do this before they tend to have the main plant at the top and runners coming through holes cut in the side.

In terms of seeds or plant i would say buy an established plant, they are very cheap and easy to grow whereas growing from seeds tend not to produce fruit in the first season. Don't forget to  use straw on top of the soil it stops the fruit from going moldy i they get damp and don't be surprised if they are stolen by birds as they are a popular berry among other species as well as us.

  3. when you get to the garden centre there are lots of varieties, tell them where you want to grow them and how adn they can make recommendations.

ps watch out for snails and slugs as strwberries are top fave.

  4. yes  you can  grow  strawberries  in  hanging  baskets,  There are varieties  specially suitable  for  this,   But  make  sure  the baskets  don't  dry out ..might need watering  daily,   All  strawberry plants  come   from  runners.  To  fruit  this year  you will need 1 year  old plants.  Best  fruiting  is with  2 and 3 year  old plants  when  they are discarded.   Each  year  apart  from  fruit ,  plants  will make  runners.  Root  and separate  a few of  these  to   give a supply of  plants  for the next  year.  Snip off unwanted  runners.  If you are  keeping  the plants  in  the  same  basket  for up to  3 years  ,  might be  better to  use a soil  based compost  rather than  a  peat  based  one as it contains  more nutrients  You can  also add fertiliser  or  pellets

  5. Yes strawberries can be grown in hanging baskets google strawberries to find  best verity and also on the plus side slugs cant get at them hope this helps
