Hi folks. I hope to spend about a week in Canada and 2 months in States. I hope that a Valid UK passport will suffice when getting into Canada and then crossing the US border. I understand a Visa Waiver Programme is also needed. I think this is provided on the plane!!!! I hope that someone out there can help! I'm leaving next week!!!!!!

  1. visa waiver means countries that do not need a visa to go in some countries ,they do not give you anything ,it is just an agreement .

    usually europe, usa ,uk

make sure your passport still has enough time left on it ,beyhond 6 months (at least ) for your travel .

uk do not need visa for US

    Inadmissibility

Some people are inadmissible—they are not allowed to come to Canada. Several things can make you inadmissible, including your involvement in criminal activity, in human rights violations or in organized crime. You can also be inadmissible for security, health or financial reasons.

    Canada:

    British Citizen

       Visa exempt

    USA:

UK visitors can still enter the USA without a visa providing they have a valid, machine readable passport that was issued before 25th October 2004. Those that don't have a machine readable passport that was issued before 25th October 2004 will need to apply for a visa in order to enter the USA. **

  2. Be prepared for customs in US, they practically interogate you.

  3. I can only speak for Canada and say a valid UK passport is all that is required for entry into Canada .i.e. no visa required.

  4. I have been to all three places. You will need proper identification and your passport. A visa isn't necessary. Yes, they do interrogate you. When I went to Canada, the government there treated me like I was a mad bomber. The UK wasn't that bad. Some of the other countries where I had layovers were a bit on the extreme side when it came to questions. They would separate me from my traveling companion and question us separately, then compare answers. But, nothing extremely stressful. Just another memory from the trip.

    Good Luck!

  5. I think you may have to go through customs twice. Once In Canada and then in the USA. Hope everything goes well for you

  6. As long as you have never, ever been arrested, you are OK.  If you have been arrested you require a visa and you have little chance of getting it in time.  I really hope that is not the case.

The VWP form is easy to fill in and takes just a few minutes.  I doubt they will issue it on the plane as you are flying to Canada.  How do you plan to get into the USA?  Land or air?

EDIT: Perhaps I should have clarified that I'm thinking just about your entry to the USA.  I have no knowledge of the rules in Canada but defer to the person immediately below me.
