Help needed please: Journalism related?

Ok im 19 years old who wants to pursue a career in journalism, i have no relevant work experience at the moment and am having a really hard time finding any sites etc. does anybody have any idea where i could look? I would really appreciate all the help i can get, so if u dont have any answers please dont leave anything silly, thanks xxxxxxx

  2. If I were you I'd really consider approaching you local newspapers and asking them if they could give you work experiance. Tell them that you'd work for nothing.

    You will probably need a degree in English to actually get a job, so perhaps combine the two, gain experiance in the summer holidays.

    Good luck. I'd also like to write for a living.

    I suggest you research Internet sites in three areas:

    1) Look at some solid journalism programs and read the course descriptions to see what types of training editors expect incoming reporters to have studied.

    2) Look at some of the professional journalism publications and websites to see what research help is available and what the current hot issues are in journalism.

    For example: www.ire.org or www.ajr.org

    3) Check the websites for local newspapers and for magazines publishing the types of articles you are interested in reporting.  These sites often have comment areas and contact points with information about submitting articles.

    Dive right in and begin submitting articles so you can both get published and find mentoring assistance.
