i wanted to ask if anyone can give me tips for preparing food quicker for sehri/iftari, i am a really slow person and last year i use to wake up 1 and a half hours before to prepare mainly parathas for 3 people.

this year i will be starting a new job on the same day as the first fast i will have enough time for iftari preps but probably won't have that much time for sehri as it will be really late by the time i have read taraweeh prayers and i'll only be getting a couple of hours sleep.

how can organise myself better, any suggestions plz.

  1. You pray Allah swt. for Baraka in your time, efforts, and assets.

    Allahi baarik feek

  2. Salaam dear sister,

I too am a slow person and even woke up about an hour early but by the time i cook sheri, we get only very few mintues to eat.

But Alhumdulliah by the grace of Allah, i have found a way which really helps me to work faster. i.e i put a clock infront of me while i am in the kitchen and set a time for each task i do. E.g. when i wash the dishes i set a time of 5 mintues if they r not many but if i have to wash a quite lot of dishes including the big pots i set a time of 10 mintues and try my best to finsh it that time. i have tried that if i feel that oh i cannt make it in 5 mintues then it really cannt. but if i think that oh i can do it, then Alhumduliah it really happnes that i am able to do it. So it depends of your thinking.

I dont know about you, but i am a person who thinks a lot while doing the work. and I know i have to chnage this stupid habit of mine.

But Alhumdulliah i set each taks for about 5 or 10 mintues according to what i am doing.

    good luck

  3. salams....freezing the food is the best option n dat includes parathas... make em then lay em on cling film or something and another layer on top then freeze em... with food also u can marinate it like chicken n freeze it....however with left overs make sure they are cold then cover with cling film n leave in the fridge...

    good luck sister

  4. buy ready made food from the ready meals bit in asda

  5. Do you think God wants you to fast for 30 days? hahaha

  6. I don't know anything about that food. But are there some parts of it that you can make the day before and refrigerate?

  7. Assalamu alaikum

I sympathise, I also work and have a big family who are mainly male (!)

I just cooked a load of meals for Ramadhan, luckily I have a big freezer. It took me 3 - 4 hours to make a moussaka, two large lasanges and 2 large quiches and about 50 burgers, alhamdulillah, that should help a lot on days I am not feeling great. I also exopect husband to cook at least one day a week (he works longer hours than me) and kids will have to help set up and clean up.

I see you are probably Pakistani as you are talking about parathas. You can actually buy frozen ones, they are frozen between two sheets of plasticy paper, this is what my family gets occassionally as I do  not have a clue how to make them. However they are a bit expensive and not quite as good as real ones! I suppose you could make them yourself in advance (ie roll them out) then freeze in between layers of baking paper, then just put them on the chapati pan, they thaw quickly.

If you are working full time, why are you spending this many hours on parathas anyway, it may be time to stand up and ask for a bit of help, if you don't you could end up very exhausted and even ill. Perhaps a bowl of microwaved porridge could be had -in fact it has a much lower glycaemic index than a paratha so will keep fasters feeling fuller anyway.

Also if I make salan base (you know the onions, tomatoes, basar etc it takes a while) I make at least enough for 4 salans then freeze the extra.

Cooling and then freezing in freezer bags takes less space then boxes.

Then when you want to make salan just thaw it in the microwave or over the day, it smells and tastes just as fresh and then you add your chicken, veg or whatever to make your salan.

You can do exactly the same thing with your rice base, make a load of it and freeze portions.

Also don't stand cutting onions, invest in a food processor (electric) to do it for you or you can crush the whole lot of onions up in a good blender or smoothie maker, this makes your work quicker.

Don't stand chopping up ginger and garlic as you can also buy these ready chopped in jars.

  8. sis i dnt know wat any of those two things are as this is my first ramadan, but i was thinking....is it okay to like all day saturday and sunday and even friday night, cook a whole bunch and freeze them in the freezer, that way everyone can wake in the morning or wat and pop them in the microwave? or wat ur second answer said, eat leftovers.? i dnt kno wat these are though, can someone tell me? : )

  9. why dont you get semi prepared meals and just warm them up in the microwave,OR for iftari you could cook  a nice meal and then for sehri you could eat leftovers in the morning thats what we usually do

    hope i helped

the second suggestion is better thn the first

    have a nice day

ramadhan mubarak (wen it comes) lol

    :o)
