ok so i had a dwarf hamster (russian female) that i bought on april 15 and i heard that dwarfs can be together so i decided to get another one from the same pet store, same breed, same gender. i brought it home and put it in a carboard box with the other hamster and they ignored each other for a while then fought. they fought like 2 or 3 times for just a couple seconds and i thought it was fine. i put them in the cage that was the cage that the hamster that i already had lived in and as soon as they were both in there they fought and wouldn't stop. i had to take one out and put them in separate cages! my mom's mad now that we have 2 cages because i told her they would get along :(. is there any way to get them to like each other? i got the second one on july 19. o and she's really scary and if u put your hand near her she will chase it and bite like really hard so does anyone have any taming advice? o the hamsters are in separate cages but next to each other.

  1. because the old hamster doesn't know the new hamster and so the old one thinks it Will hurt it or you so its protecting you and itself so it will fight because that what happen to mine they just don't know each other!!!!!!!

  2. Hamsters are known to be very territorial creatures...

i tried to touch one and it BIT me! wasnt cause i tried to touch it.. it's because i put my hand in the cage...

Your Best bet would to simply make them get alot Somehow... try giving them a snack and both of themeating it simoultaniously...

Try everything whatever works good luck..

  3. In order for two hamsters to get along, they have to be from the same litter. my hamsters just fought today. new and old. i  am really scared.

  4. You have to buy your hamsters at the same time, and put them in a cage that has no scent in it. Russian dwarf hamsters do fight, I raised them years back...

Sometimes, the female just doesn't like the male or his advances.  Animals like people can like or dislike each other.

Next time get robovinski hamsters, the ones I have never bite, and the clerk at the pet store told me no "robo" hamster has ever bitten him....he has been working with them for years.  (I have 2 males, no problems.)

Best way to train hamsters, is to get one of their toys and rub some carrot juice or apple juice inside  the toy, or put a treat inside the toy, they will crawl up into it.....

Then, after you have done this for a week or so...

Tilt the toy and the hamster will be curious and get into your hand....make sure you have a Ritz cracker, or some oats in your hand, then they associate you with food, their favorite thing....

This is what I've always done, my hamsters never bite....

If you want to  take them out while their sleeping, don't poke them, or grab them,  or make a loud noise, just talk in a low voice, and use the toy trick, soon, they will crawl up into the toy by themselves...

People think hamsters are mean, they aren't, think of how you'd feel if you were in a deep sleep in a dark room, and someone grabbed you, and lifted you up in the air.....You'd probably take a swing at the person.    Just treat animals as you would want someone to treat you, and no problems...

Keep your hamsters separate, if they fight.  Otherwise one of them will kill the other one.

This could happen when you are not home, happened to me  years ago, (when I was very young), they both seemed to get along, but when I came home, one was dead....(I felt so bad.)

Best of luck with the hammies, they really are  great pets.
