Question:

Help on 1986 Nissan Hardbody XE?

My 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody XE has the Z24I 4 cylinder engine. Manuel transmission. With a little over 160,000 miles on it. The problem is...

When i start it, it runs for a good 2 seconds and then just bogs down and cuts off. It use to run for a little but i could never give it a lot of gas cause it would bog down and cut off. First i though i ran into bad gas at the gas station but that wasn't the problem. I replaced the fuel filter because the stock one was on there is what my mom said, but that still didn't fix it. I was thinking maybe spark plugs might have oil on them or they might just be old as dirt. Does anyone have any other suggestions... and has any other nissan hardbody owner run into this problem?

Thank you in advance!

  1. I would check the the fuel injectors on the TBI. When they go out, they do exactly what you are experiencing. You will want to find them at a wrecking yard, since they are about $300 each new. Good Luck!

  2. sounds like the idle air control valve solenoid. If it is good luck on trying to find one, my local nissan dealer told me the part was discontinued. I can not find one anywhere. My truck is doing the same thing

  3. Check CYLINDER HEAD TEMP SENDING UNIT
