Help! on Driving permits?

I want to go ahead and just get a driving permit with out taking the NC Driving School. What are the requirements and How Do i get one. Im 16 and I want to be able to learn how to drive from my parents! Please Help

normally if you take a class your insurance rates will be lower for life.

obviously that doesnt matter right now cause youre young, but when you  have to pay those bills, youre going to wish you had taken it. mine is 20% lower just because i took that class!

Just take the driving course in school.  

But for the permit, most states require you to have one even before you start learning.  Go to your local DMV or Highway Dept (whichever one you get them at), get the book, study it for a week or two, take the written test and pass it, and you get your permit.
