Help on Maine Real Estate Transfer - Mom to Son?

Hi - My husband's Mom owns 20 undeveloped acres in Maine (Penobscot county, value about 40 to 60K). They want to simply transfer the deed, name for name. No cash will be exchanged. I know we have to pay the $2.20 per $500 transfer tax and misc doc fees, and that fee tails are allowed but not what we want, but will the property have to be surveyed, or are there other things we should know? Any info very much appreciated!! Thank you!

  1. You should call a title company and see about obtaining title insurance. You can call the county and ask for all the paperwork necessary to transfer title. They will tell you any special requirements.
