Help on Poem collected by Langston Hughes, "Mother to Son"!!!?

I need to find out who actually wrote it and why they wrote it... Any ideas or anyplaces I can find out the answers??

Langston Hughes wrote it.

Langston Hughes (famous African-American poet) wrote the poem (one of my favorites too)

He wrote it to explain to people that just because life gets tough, you can't just sit on your behind and give up.  You have to keep going and doing your best no matter what.
