Help on Presenting In High School?

I have always been really shy,

and when Im asked to do a presentation I freak out.

When I get up there, im really quiet and my voice shakes, and I stumble over my words a lot.

I have one tomorrow and three next week, one of them being a REALLY long powerpoint.

What can I do to reduce my fear of giving a presentation?

  1. Take deep breaths and stay calm, and fill your head with happy moments and keep on thinking that it'll turn out fine and when your doing your presenting dont talk really fast because you'll stumble on your words and when you finish just smile ( =) ) haha.


  2. Just imagine that they are all your friends and be yourself when presenting, when speaking to them, dont speak fast and dont speak to quietly and make sure they get your point......now i have a question how do you have school tomm when its summer

  4. Just remember people aren't usually paying attention. like seriously how often do u sit there and listen to an entire class?

    Also these people are your friends, you know them. Just think like your talking to your friends.

    DO NOT PICTURE THEM NAKED. ugh yuck

    when i have to speak in front of very large groups for MUN i focas on what im talking about and you start to calm down and forget about the audience.

  5. Its all down to stress. The more stressed you are the greater the fear. The greater the fear the more stressed you get. A vicious cycle.

    You need to do 3 things.

    First, start diaphragm breathing which will make your stomach go in and out. Practise breathing in for 5 seconds and out for 5 seconds. Focus fully on your breathing. This will ensure more oxygen goes to your brain and it will help keep anxiety at bay.

    Second, visualise yourself doing the presentation over and over. Your mind cant tell the difference between something thats real or imagined.

    Third, from today tell yourself at every opportunity "I will love and respect myself every day of my life". This will begin to increase your self-esteem. More information can be found at

  6. You could do traditional stuff like...

    *Deep Breaths

    *Look at your friends

    *Use proper posture

    *Cover yourself up, wear lots of clothing

    Or you might try...

    *Drinking an energy drink 20min before so your all loose

    *Getting really stressed or angry... it can help with focus, but is not good

    Relax though, people are scared for you and want you to do good. Just remember, it is only a few mintutes and the worst thing that can happen will be forgotten the next day.

  7. Im shy too, usually instead of looking at the whole class I'd look at just the teacher or my friend in the class. Presentations are usually easier if you're friends with your whole class, then you wont be nervous to talk in front of them
