Hello, im 17 right now and when i turn 18 im going to get a tattoo in remembrance for my mother since she passed away this year. I want to get a dragon*her favorite creature* and a coffin that is getting wrapped around by the dragon. this will all be on my forearm. Does anyone know the best way to get the sketched out? and will this take more then 1 session>?

  1. It definitly will take more then one session, especially if you want coloring. And if you tell your concept to the tattooist then they can draw up a drawing for you, thats what i did. and then you can make little adjustments to fit your liking :)

Im getting my a tattoo for my mother that passed away to, such a good way of remembrance.

    good luck

  2. It depends on how much detail and color the tattoo involves, also how big it is. But if it's just your forearm, I'd say it would only take one sitting, unless it wraps all the way around your arm and is incredibly intricate.

You should also buy some A&D ointment (the one in the yellow/brown packaging, not the blue, in the baby aisle) in preparation to take care of your tattoo. It will feel like a sunburn/windburn for a while and then get itchy. Whatever you do, don't scratch or pick at the scabs.

  3. how about a portriat of your mom ?

maybe a lady smiling gracefully with a dragon flying around it for eg. a geisha with a dragon around her.

I am sure you want happy memories rather than a coffin that reminds you of her death over and over. Do something "alive"

but well is up to you =) good luck.

  4. the best thing to do is go to a couple of tattoo shops, look at some of their work (remember, this is permanent, and many tattoo artists don't do such a great job). then ask the tattoo artist if he can draw up a sketch of  what u want and where u want it. this way u can get exactly what ur asking for as well as the size u want it, and it will be unique instead of something that's already posted on the internet. the session depends on the tattoo artist and how much detail is involved. many tattoo artists will go ahead and complete it in one session. if its on ur forearm, it should only take 1 session, but like i said, it depends on how much detail.

  5. As a memorial tattoos are used to remember a beloved family member that has passed away.

One should decide carefully where they want it as otherwise they end up paying a fortune to have it laser removed. Also, different locations mean different things like there is a theory that getting a tattoo on the lower back helps open up the base chakra and enhances the life force.

You could also find info on various sites. They usually include a beginner's guide to getting a tattoo and cover some of the most common concerns and questions when getting a tattoo.

This one is good too -

All said, you may also ask professional tattoo artists (when you go for one) for they have the best ideas and suggestions.
