i have to do this assignment for school, and i can't remember which goes where in electrolysis. Should the pure metal be placed as the anode or the cathode?

  1. answer is as said by Army Dude,

    No need to use pure metal, Theory may say that we should use pure metals. But as you can see in practice, like in batteries, Zn is impure Anode.


  2. The metal can be the anode or the cathode.

    The half reaction for an Anode would look like

    Zn (s) ---> Zn2+(aq) + 2e-
