  1. If you want to get two, then i suggest you get male and female..and if your concerned about money then you should get a starter kit ,it includes EVERYTHING you might need ,including nutrition and vitamin. You can get this for around 30 dollars.

  7. I have two pandas. Good hamster cage, Extreame fruit and nut mix, fiesta food mix, bedding (carefresh), nesting material, food dishes, waterbottles, hamster balls, hamster wheels, toys, chews, toys, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY LOVE!!! Hope this helps!!

  8. Hamster 5.1 Digital Surround Sound System along with a 6"inch LCD Tv so they can watch their hamster programming.

Oh yeah, don't forget hamster Xbox 360 do they don't get bored.

  9. Think basics at first.

You need food, water, and shelter.

So buy a water bottle, the cradle that holds the water bottle, some food, and a food dish (probably a good idea to get ceramic so it won't get knocked over).

Hamsters don't really need a home, they'll normally nest together, but sometimes it's better if they're going to be staying in a bright room, so they can get away from the light.  So buy a house, or hamster nesting stuffing if you don't want to buy them a house.

Next, think a little more largely.  They're going to need a cage, obviously.  It'd be best to get them an aquarium because they'll chew out of something plastic.

You're going to need some bedding too.  Try Care Fresh or Healthy Pet.  Don't get wood chips.  Not exactly the best idea for several reasons.

Lastly, think about their health.  Buy them a wheel, but be careful what wheel you buy.  A plastic wheel will be chewed up in no time.  So buy a wire or mesh wheel.

Also, think about their teeth.  Hamsters need their teeth to be worn down regularly.  If you haven't started collecting toilet paper tubes and paper towel tubes, then buy them a little wooden toy (unless you want their main chew toy to be their house).

Some safe things to collect for them to chew on include:

    ~toilet paper tubes

    ~paper towel tubes

~tissue boxes (with the plastic around the inside edge removed)

    ~cereal boxes

Finally, you can think about the little things that'll make them happy.  Like treats!

Don't try asking "What do hamsters like best?" because I've got to ask you, "What do people like best?"  Hard to answer, eh?  Because, just like every person is different, hamsters have different tastes as well.

You can try nuts, buying a bag of unsalted, dry roasted peanuts is fine.  But do NOT get salted or fried peanuts, not good for them.

They might like dried fruits.  In which case, you can buy parrot trail mix which has a variety of dried fruits, some nuts, and more.

Trying fresh foods might work too, but give them to them in modernity.  Too many will result in your hamster getting wet stool or diarrhea.

Lastly, if you don't want to get all unique or fresh, try store treats.  They range from raviolis, waffle crisps, bars and more!!

No matter what, you need the basics.  In time, you'll be able to figure out what you want your hamster to have and what you don't want him or her to have.  ^^  It's not like if you forget it all the first time, you'll miss out forever.  There's always time for another trip to the store.  (:

  10. Here are some of the essentials in every starter kit.

    1.Cage

Generally, there are 3 types of cages, aquarium cages, wire cages and connectable cages. Choose one that is most suitable for your preference.

    2.Bedding

Bedding is used to absorb the smell and odours of your hamster's urine. In general, fluffy/cellulose, cedar and pine bedding are said to be detrimental to the health of your hamster. Opt for safer bedding such as aspen wood shavings instead.

    3.Exercise Equipment

A wheel is not a luxury item but a NECCESSITY for the hamster. Hamsters are naturally active and a lack of exercise might result in paralysis, where an afflicted hamster will spend most of its time hunched over, often unable to raise its head. Besides the wheel, ladders, exercise ball and other toys also provide good exercise.

    4.Water bottle

Gravity water bottles that hang from the side of the cage are the best way to provide water. These bottles are designed not to leak, your pet won’t be able to knock them over, and spilled food won’t contaminate the water as it would if you kept water in a dish. Make sure the bottle you buy is big enough to hold at least an entire day’s worth of water for your pet. Offer your pet fresh water daily, and clean the bottle regularly. Choose a chew-resistant bottle and holder to keep your pet from gnawing on the bottle.

    5.Food Dish and food

Choose a gnaw-proof, bottom-weighted food dish so that your hamster will not topple the food all over the cage. The food dish should be big enough to hold daily food supplies as well as to allow your hamster to sit in it comfortably. Buy a reliable brand of hamster mix that contains nutrients to a healthy diet for your hamster.

Last but not least, in addition to the above, the most important things you can give to your hamster are lots of love, patience and tender loving care.

  11. CHEW TOYS (no one mentioned them)

  12. The most important thing to remember is chew sticks or toys.  People always remember about food and housing but hamster are rodents and will have problems with their teeth if they can't chew on items.  That's why you see them chew on their cages if they don't get chew sticks.  Lost a couple of hamster that way when I was little.
