Question:

Help on overhand serving?

i just started volley ball..and everything is good besides my overhand serve. it hardly makes it to the next and rarely goes over! i need more power, but i dont know how to get more power.

does anyone know?

  1. Practice building up the muscle in your arms... It's not about swinging faster, but how hard you actually hit it.

    So hit your ball on the ground over and over again. Or try lifting weights and you should see major improvement.


  2. I used to have trouble with my over hand serve as well what i did is i used to weight lift to get my arms stronger and also practice hitting the ball with more of the palm of your hand towards the bottom of your palm!

  3. I just started playing volleyball last year and struggled with the same. I'm considered small for my age, but now i hit the ball pretty well. Practice your tosses, sometimes if you aren't throwing the ball up as well, it will throw off your serve when you make contact with the ball. Secondly, make sure you're when you make contact with the ball your hand is at the height of it's extension. Lastly strike with the heel of your hand. If you are striking it with the upper palm, the ball generally has a lot less power.
