what effect do toxic and phamoceutical compound have on activated sludge, micro-organisms in sewage treatment?

Unless there would be a massive spill or total screwup, there would be no effect.  The amount of these chemicals to impact the systems bacteria is massive and the worry that they would be just overwhelmed and not able to treat all the material would be a bigger concern.  Remember, even wastewater from pesticide plants can be treated very efficiently.
