  1. 1) The sexualized portrayal of Asian women

    2) The Expression of Masculinity versus Femininity in TV

    3) The Stereotypical TV mom (submissive, homemaker, thin, attractive...etc)

    4) Dichotomous Differences: (dominant vs subordinate) Men and Women of TV

    5) Women "Need" a man to rescue them

  2. It'd be really fun to explore the way women exploit their sexuality as acts of desperation in a competitive environment on reality dating shows. You could even analyze this phenomenon across classes, races, and ages - "next" is middle-upper class young people of all races, "the bachelor" usually has upper class middle-aged white people (from what I've seen), "flavor of love" has lower-class young black women, and so on. But they are all pressured to exploit themselves in an environment where attention from their desired mate is limited.

I'm sure somewhere online there are statistics of how many people say they would like to go on a reality show. If not, just make it a content analysis of the shows themselves. Be sure to acknowledge the possibility that women exploiting their sexuality are disproportionately represented in the editing room (and in casting for that matter) by producers trying to get people to watch the show more.

I just might write this paper myself now. :)

  3. I received my Bach. in Sociology in 99.

Maybe you can focus on how societies views of women have changed over the years and how these views are depicted in the television shows. For instance, in the 60's many women did not work outside of the home, and 60's television had many commercials and television shows geared towards women taking care of the family and household. Now, women are considered to be much more independent and liberal, what television shows depict these characteristics and how?

  4. maybe how women are watching more tv and getting less physical activity... which contributed to cardiovascular disease, the #1 killer of women.

  5. something to do with the way women are portrayed on the television and how how this links in with societies stereotypes of the role of women.

Look at the works of Anne Oakley

  6. do something about women in the workplace and how it relates to their conversational differences with men. i am taking a sociology class now called sociology in the workplace and we discuss a lot about conversational differences, how we communicate with one another and what effective communication is all about, try D.Tannen author it may help...good luck oh yeah maybe talk about how we may interpret concepts from women on TV...think about talk shows like O and Dr.Phil
