Question:

Help! one of my spacers became like embedded in my gum! ??

When I first got them on, they were loose and I could move them around but they'd still stay in. One of them looks like it's almost completely in my gum. It doesn't hurt unless i touch it. I tried to move it down towards the tooth more but that hurts A LOT. What do I do? I got them on Monday, and I get them off this coming Monday. I don't think I can call the orthodontist's office since they're probably closed for the weekend. It's been like this for a couple days but I just got home from vacation so it's not like I could've called them earlier. What do I do?

  1. I would call your doctors office, dentist, or even a hospital because thats not good and trying to get it out yourself can push it in more!

Just tell whoever you call that your orthodonist is closed and they'll understand. I hope it comes out!

  2. Relax,  relax..........I'm an orthodontist assistant.   As long as you can still see part of the spacer,  it's fine.   Try to just leave it alone,  the more you mess with it,  the more it may push farther up or down.

Even though you can't see it,  the ortho workers will have no problem easing it back out on Monday.   Even if it completely drops out over the weekend,  your space should be fine until Monday.   If you just can't handle it at all,  go ahead and pull it out,  as I said,  with just 2 days left until they are taken out anyway,  you shouldn't be hurting anything.

This is no problem at all,   just leave it alone if you can for 2 days.
