im 14 years old. i started my period on dec. 1 2006. it didnt come back til april of 2007. i was fine until august of 2007. all my periods have been really heavy. i have soaked my pants and had to go home from school. just in these past two days, i have gone through 5 tampons, 6 overnight pads, and have spotted my pants and undies. i know it may be normal to be irregular but this is making me really frustrated that i cried b/c i cant handle it. is there anything i can suggest to my doc that will slow it down or lighten "my load?" this making me really upset. i dont like going to school scared that i'll leak. please please please HELP ME! i have the weekend to my mom and me so just help!

Ps- i use playtex sport as tampons...backup layer and 360 degree helps a lot (i used tampax pearl but i kept having to change it...). i use kotex pads. i dont take midol or tylenol b/c i dont have any pain at all... (except for the occansional changing of the tampon...should i be concerned of that too? it was a playtex sport super...middle absorbancy...tampon. it really hurt to take it out. but i used it earlier today and changed and it felt fine)

  1. You need to see an OBG/YN doctor and tell them about this. Your period is out of controll and not regular. This happened to me when I was younger very heavy bleeder and it came and went when it wanted to. My doctor put me on birth control pills to help me become regular. It helped!!

  2. I had the same problem when I was younger. My period came and it stopped for so many months. Then it kept on leaking and I couldn't control it. I know that it sucks and it's really annoying but it will get better.  So don't worry. I've found the solutions so here...

I do not recommend you to use birth pills because it is not neccessary. And I do not recommend you to use tampons either if your period is coming this much.

Instead, you should go to the toilet and often as possible so it goes in the toilet instead. This means that you should drink lots of water to help. Also don't forget to change your pad when it is almost full so it won't leak. During your period, wear dark pants and/or a long top which will be able to cover you butt. This will give you more confidence. Also, wear a jacket to school if it's chilly enough. Just incase it leaks, you can tie it around your waist to cover it ;)

Take care and good luck !

  3. Birth control helps lighten periods.

  4. You need to go to the doctor and tell this to him.

He might prescribe you birth control (ask for blood tests though to make sure you react well to it, I didn't and I almost died) or a progesterone cream/pill.  Progesterone is a hormone that has been proven to help take the edge off of periods.

I had your exact same situation...have you tried kotex super plus tampons?  Those work really well for me.  Sometimes too I wear a maxi pad and a tampon, just in case!!

I have been off birth control for a month now, and my aunt is sending me this progesterone cream that actually shortened and lightened her periods (you just put it on your face, neck, chest in the morning and at night), so I'll let you know how that works...and you can get that cream without a doctor.
