  1. Ok for this I would recommend a quaker parrot...unlike your previous question which i recommended a male canary.. the quaker parrots are faily easy, and also have speach ability.

They are more work then a canary and require alot more time for socialization.  However, they are a larger bird which will happily interact with you, has speech ability, very intellegent, and will not have the scream and hard bites of the Conure group.  They will also not produce dandure/fluff like the 'tiels.

**Dont even think about a conure parrot with your experience level.  Trust me, you will end up rehoming the bird after a couple of good bites and alot of screaming (bird)...i have owned many...but now own none...I can handle hard bites and work behavioral mods...but i begain to loose hearing in both ears due to the little devils...no more conures for me!

**Cockatiels are good starter birds...very sweet, interactive, and easy...however, I dont recommend these to any home because of the potential health hazards.  They emit more "fluff" (skin, feather, dust) into the air then any other bird per KG body wieght!  People get them..and then find out that they have obstructive breathing issues...be very careful here!

Why on earth would you want to handfeed?? The cost you'll save, will eat you up in time/effort...and you run a risk of aspirating your bird.  If you have to ask about "hand feeding" then do NOT attempt to do this, without hands on training with a breeder.  pay a little extra...have them do it...and watch/help...that way in the future you will have some experience.  I dont see any benefit from personally handfeeding rather then allowing the breeder to do so.  I know a lot of "sweet hand-fed babies" that will tear there owners eye out given the chance.  This is not a recommendation for parent raised...but rather to say that if you spend all your waking hours handfeeding..its still no guaranty.

  2. Hi again!

Firstly, a hand fed baby is a bird that you buy from a breeder verses a petstore and instead of being fed by their mother they were fed by the breeder. This makes them more comfortable around hands and humans in general. Basically they are alot easier to train. The breeder then sells them once they are weened.

Budgies: They are actually brilliant talkers, but like any bird, you are not guaranteed that they will talk and either way it takes a lot of work. They are very adorable and small and happy. They are my personal choice for a first time bird. They live about 10-15 years. They come in blue, white, green, yellow, purple, and combinations of them all.

Cockatiels: Medium sized birds that are much better at imitating whistles rather then actual words. But they can learn words, just not as easily pronounced. They are loving and affectionate, and are also a good first timer choice. They come in whites, greys, and occassionally cinnamon.

Parrotlets and Lovebirds are also an option, i suggest you google them and find one that fits ou best. Also, check your pennysaver to see if there are any breeders in the area selling their birds.

  3. Cockatiels can learn to talk some they can also learn to wistle a tune. Get one that has been hand fed not tube/syrynge fed that can cause problems later. Also get one that is weened can eat on its own now out of its dish.
