I have a pioneer 1017 receiver. I have HK 14 speakers 5 120w sats with a 200 wat sub. I am not 100% in love with the music from this. It sounds great but I am thinking of buying a good center ch. speaker to use as the back surround. (probably a cerwin vega) It just seems empty in the back I want music coming from everywhere. I figure with a good speaker back there the circle will be complete. BTW my reciever does do 7.1 but i will never use it for that. Ill set it up as 6.1 . Does this make any sense or will I be wasting my money? OR, Would it be better to use the good center as my new center channel and just throw one of the sats in the back. The back will probably never be used in movies only music

  1. Use the new center as your main front and throw a sat speaker for the rears because the rears arent ever going to put out a lot of sound.  Also 6.1 was just a passing thing until 7.1 came out so I would recommend going to 7.1 you will be happier with the sound.

  2. On side note to your question.  You say you might use the newer center as your main center.  If it is a better center, then YES.  The center channel is the most important speaker in your entire set up.

A sat in the back will do fine to complete your circle.  However, I am surprised your system does not satisfy you as it is.  On mine, a Yahama, I change my program to complete 5 channel, rather than dolby, when listening to music.  Sorry if that is confusing, I just had surgery, and have a couple pills in me right now!  Good luck.
