Help plaese Hamster help again?

Question

My hamster well i figure out it was a guy which was gross to find out lol well can i juse blank shreded computer paper for its bedding plaese help

hi answered in ur other question congtaz its aboy but i still think plain newspaper without being shredded would be good because hamsters like to shred it themselves but shredded computer paper is a good idea

NO NEWSPAPER!

one of my hamsters got sick when we used newspaper.

it might not have been from newspaper, but i wouldn't do it again.

i think that buying plain aspen wood shavings would cost less than buying packs and packs of plain white paper... it costs a lot now...

Its not good to use newspaper. The inks in that stuff can rub on your hamster, and he could get sick. Also, don't get Cedar bedding, because that's pretty bad for hamsters. Shredded blank computer paper sounds okay, but it could still contain chemicals that aren't good for it. I use a hypoallergic bedding that is great for small animals. It absorbs everything and smells great. I don't know what its called, but its grey and kind of looks like little pieces of paper balled loosely together. I highly recommend it. To some degree yes and no.

Yes:  

You can.  

No:

Your hamster could be allergic to the paper (though there is a slim chance);

It will cost more than regular bedding;

You will have to clean out the paper more often;

Paper is less absorbent;

You will  have to clean his cage out with a rag because if urine stays in his cage for too long, it could make him sick.

It's really up to you, but I really think you should try Healthy Pet or Care Fresh.  It's only like $20 for a large bag of bedding which is top notch, hypoallergenic, and absorbs a lot more than wood chips or paper.

Computer paper is normally bleached paper and the bleach in the paper can irritate the hamster's fur.

Instead use ripped toilet paper too.It is not expensive and is a good bedding for hamsters.  If possible, mix it with aspen shavings and use as bedding (no cedar or pine shavings should be used) Make sure that the toilet paper is untreated, unbleached and non fragrant.

One game for my hammies is to put a whole roll of toilet paper in their cage. The next two days is very interesting since watching them tear the toilet paper and make their bedding is sheer fun.

Also the empty toilet roll tubes make good toys for the hamsters to play and gnaw.
