Help planning a kids birthday party!?

I am trying to figure out what to do for my boys birthday party. They are going to be 10 and 9 yrs old. And they are sharing the party.

The kids will be a mix of ages (family and friends from school) There are 17 kids in the family and my oldest invited some kids from school. So many people and age groups I am freaking out! Ages are from 1 to 12 mostly between 7-11 and 4 of them are 3 and under. Please help me with some ideas.

The party will be held at home (backyard party)

  1. Back yeard beach aprty!  I did it for my daughter 6th and we had ages 2-adult.  I set up a few small pools and a slip and slide for the kids.  you can rent one of those bounce houses, eveyone loves those.  Do a BBQ and beach style cake.  Its nothing to stress over!  Have fun!

  2. Carnival. Have little games like ring toss, and the one with the ducks in the water and they have to pick the one with the special mark. You could hire some one to do face painting (or talk to a friend see if they would be willing to help) and balloon animals. Most clowns do both plus a few tricks. Plus you can have little tables that have pop corn, cotton candy, corn dogs. All of that you can buy all ready made all you have to do is pass it out. As for the cake.. Baskin Robins has the cutest little thing. It's a cookie with a circle of ice cream and a cone on top. It is decorated to look like a clown. I love these because there is no fight "his piece is bigger" "I wanted the flower/corner" Every one gets there own clown and everyone is happy. And if you still want to  sing happy birthday with the candles you can get a small cake that is meant for the family and have him use that. Then once he blows out the candles take it in side and put it away and get out every ones clown.
